Pod House was tired and in need of a facelift. Located in the Kingston Heritage Precinct, the challenge was to provide more room suited to modern open plan living but maintain the heritage overlay all the while working on a century old house with peculiarities that were only revealed during construction.

Overview

Pod House transformed a century old house in the Kingston Heritage Precinct into a delightful, light filled home. Two new Pods were added to either end of the original, unusual boomerang shaped dwelling. The Pods sit lightly in the heritage streetscape creating a beautiful home that brings the garden in and gives the family the space and privacy they need.

Features

  • A Living Pod with fully glazed wall that bring the garden inside the home.
  • A Retreat Pod opening onto the garden but maintaining the occupants’ privacy.
  • Externally, the Pods’ shape talks to the original pitched roof but also provided a clear contrast to delineate the Pods from the original building.
  • Thermally efficient Miglas AlidClad windows and doors were used that combine the advantage of a durable exterior with the beauty of a timber interior
  • Removed gas hot water and heating with an energy efficient hot water heat pump and reverse cycle electric heating and cooling.
